*Topic:* Focus on the Promise not the Threat

*Text:* Numbers 13:17-20, 27-30

Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way into the Negev (the South country); then go up into the hill country. See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many, and whether the land in which they live is good or bad, and whether the cities in which they live are [open] camps or fortifications, and what the land is, whether it is fat (productive) or lean, whether there is timber on it or not. Make an effort to get some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes. They reported to Moses and said, “We went in to the land where you sent us; and it certainly does flow with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. But the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified (walled) and very large; moreover, we saw there the descendants of Anak [people of great stature and courage]. [The people descended from] Amalek live in the land of the Negev (South country); the Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the [Dead] Sea and along the side of the Jordan.” Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession of it; for we will certainly conquer it.”

Glory be to God for His word that gives light and understanding to the prudent. For His purpose that can never be hindered and His glory that is forever alive in us Hallelujah.

Lord speak to us this day and have your way in Jesus name.

*Promise* according to dictionary is a declaration or assurance that one will do something or that a particular thing will happen.

While *Threat* is a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done.

In a lame man's term or understanding;

Promise is something that is said to be given to a person as a reward or inheritance, while a threat is something that is said to create fear, discouragement, sorrow and pain from one party to another.

Looking at the scripture above, the children of Israel were promised before leaving Egypt that they will be taken to Canaan, the land where milk and honey flows and it will be their inheritance. They will eat the fruit of the land without any hindrance.

Scripture reference when promise was given to Abram
On the same day the Lord made a covenant (promise, pledge) with Abram, saying, “To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt to the great river Euphrates— [the land of] the Kenites and the Kenizzites and the Kadmonites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Rephaim, the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”

Genesis 15:18‭-‬21 AMP

The children of Israel had left Egypt and now they were ready to possess the land promised to them by Messiah, they were looking forward to take that land. Moses gathered men of valour, men who were trusted from trusted background, vetted people of caliber and sauce as we may categorise them these days. They left to spy on the land, look at the land is it a place they can make home, does it consist of what Messiah said it has.

On getting back Moses was waiting for the report from these men of caliber and sauce, they came like *_yeah boss that land is blessed, you get what am saying it's so blessed like everything is lit, everything is on point but you know what there are giants there_*

In the response of some of the people sent this so called man of valour and caliber, the land can't be possessed because the threat has blinded them of the promises spoken before some of them was born. The threat was too big for their faith to handle, the fear cause their mind to tremble and cause their confession to go against what God had spoken concerning them.

It's really disheartening how we can easily hear, see, read and allow information contrary to the will of God to shift our focus from the plans of God.

In verse 30 of the anchor scripture Caleb quieted them, He told them to shut up πŸ€¨πŸ˜πŸ™„πŸ˜Άin other words politely not rudely, He told them the land can be possessed and they will possess it. In fact in his word he was like *_let us go up at once and take possession of it; for we will certainly conquer it._*

Say to yourself

*_God hasn't brought me this far to forsake me, He will not say what He will not do, and His word is glorified above His name_*

The question in our minds when threats come either in form of sickness, financial trouble, sickness, government law, unpleasant protocols, delay, denial, world pandemic and predicament, we can easily shift our focus away form what God said or is saying because we can glare directly to the threat that the promise that is yet to manifest is pushed behind our mind.

Our mindset can easily be overturned or fine-tuned by what we allow to settle in our inner man and this comes by our daily encounter either through sense of sight, feeling, hearing, taste and God knows what.

As believers our lives are not and should not be controlled by our feeling or emotion but by what God has said. His promises for us is worth reciting with total surrender and belief each and everyday no matter what the threat is.

Does it mean the threats will not shake you and I, I won't lie it will or might try but it doesn't mean it will win.

*I once saw a video of a dog barking ferociously against a cock and this cock on the other hand instead of running off charged against the dog, as it barked, the whole scenario took few minutes and this cock didn't back down instead it charged against the dog and chased the dog away.*

This look like an unforeseen scenario but the cock wasn't having that threat in its territory.

My question to you is will you focus more on the threat and neglect the promises of God. My personal believe is there is nothing beyond the word of God.

There is no solution that the word of God cannot bring. Someone is saying the word hasn't worked for me, the truth is the word backed by active faith that is unwavering does work. It will work and it's working don't give up.

You know Caleb said let us go once and possess the land, if you read the Bible well you will see that among the generation of Israelites that actually got to Canaan, Caleb was one of them. The threat of the sons of Anak didn't stop Him from trusting Jehovah the one and able God. The one who is majestic, the one who's word is yes and amen, the one who never fails, the one that every situation sees and bow.

A song by Todd Dulaney goes thus;

Yes the world will bow down and say you are God
Every man will bow down and say you are king
So let's start right now
Why would we wait
We must sing right now in victory

King of glory fill this place
Just wanna be with you
Just wanna be with you

Do you know when threat is ruling above you in all areas it's hard to actually sing or shout in victory because your thought is subjected to that threat.

Today I want to encourage myself and encourage all of us, the promises of God will never fail, His promises might be delayed but it doesn't necessarily mean you will be denied. The children of Israel got a delay before eventually getting to Canaan but guess what only those who solely trusted His promises to the core lived to enjoy it.

Are you ready to live to enjoy His promises here in the land of the living when you see Him in glory?

Kick out and forsake the threat now.

Let us pray

Heavenly father I worship and honour you for your word is yes and amen

King of my life I magnify you for your word is exalted above your name and absolutely nothing can render you word void

Jehovah I thank you for igniting my faith and subjecting every feeling or emotions under faith henceforth

Lord almighty over(mention) that stands as a threat over my life and household, I claim victory in Jesus name

Great Jehovah you are the Most High king and I know that I will not die before my day of promise fulfillment in Jesus name

Say father concerning this group and ministry let your promises manifest and over every lives connected and impacted by it in Jesus name

Father over(mention) that you have promised me let me sing for joy and thanksgiving and let others witness your wonder working power in Jesus name.

Personal prayer

Thank you Jesus for answered prayers in Jesus name
