*Topic:* Learning From Other's Failure

*Text:* 1 Corinthians 1:1 - 12

My dear fellow believers, you need to understand that all of our Jewish ancestors who walked through a wilderness long ago were under the glory cloud and passed through the waters of the sea on both sides. They were all baptized into the cloud of glory, into the fellowship of Moses, and into the sea. They all ate the same heavenly manna and drank water from the same spiritual rock that traveled with them—and that Rock was Christ himself. Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their dead bodies were scattered around the wilderness. Now, all these things serve as types and pictures for us—lessons that teach us not to fail in the same way by callously craving worthless things and practicing idolatry, as some of them did. For it is written: The people settled in to their unrestrained revelry, with feasting and drinking, then they rose up and became wildly out of control! Neither should we commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, which caused the death of twenty-three thousand on a single day. Nor should we ever provoke the Lord, as some of them did by putting him to outrageous tests that resulted in their death from snakebites day after day. And we must not embrace their ways by complaining—grumbling with discontent, as many of them did, and were killed by the destroyer! All the tests they endured on their way through the wilderness are a symbolic picture, an example that provides us with a warning so that we can learn through what they experienced. For we live in a time when the purpose of all the ages past is now completing its goal within us. So beware if you think it could never happen to you, lest your pride becomes your downfall.

1 Corinthians 10:1‭-‬12 TPT

Today we will be discussing learning from other's failure and the scripture is taken from 1 Corinthians 10:1-12.

Failure can be defined as lack of success.
And no one in their right mind will say they want to fail in whatever they do in life.
It is important that one learns from their mistake or failure.
It is often said that when you fall, get up, dust yourself, look at what made you fall, and move on.
Don't turn a mole to a hill because of your failures.

Reading from the scriptures, we are admonished here to learn from the failure of the Israelites.
Even though they saw the miracles of God from them crossing the Red Sea to them eating manna in the wilderness, many of them still failed in various ways.
Some had idols that they worshipped.
Many of them perished in the wilderness because they failed to obey God.
Many of them just lived life like God was not the author of their life.
In the age we live now things generate and travel far so quickly.
Looking at the pandemic for instance many nations didn't learn from other nations' mistake while some did.
In as much as the outbreak was happening gradually some nations kept their borders opened and we all can see what it resulted into.
Many lost their lives.
Do you know one man's mistake can ruin a whole lot of things?

Taking it back to the beginning of human existence, when Eve made the mistake of listening to the serpent, she carried her husband along.
Instead of him reasoning along the line of being the first in the garden he followed the advice of his wife.
And that was the beginning of pain, suffering, death and separation of man from their Maker.
You would have thought that Cain would learn from that but no. He killed his brother doing another grave mistake which led to a curse upon him.
When others around us make mistake, it is not for us to gloat over their mistake and turn it to topic of discussion or the hottest gossip. It is for us to learn and not walk in the path.
Many times you see re-occurring mistakes in a family because no one thought of breaking the chain of that mistake.
In fact some even say it is in the gene.
You often read of people whose parent went to prison at certain age, their own child comes along and around that age they fall into same trap.
Then the chain continues.
A chain doesn't break except you take the hook of connection off.
The fact that your parents failed in a particular way doesn't mean you must fail as well.
Some mistakes may need spiritual breakthrough to encounter physical manifestation.
It is important not to take certain pattern in life as just a coincidence.
There are things that aren't even coincidence in the spirit.
But except you are truly a man or woman who takes the spiritual life of themself or people around them with importance you will never know.
If you read the anchor chapter properly the writer admonished believers not to feel like they aren't liable to fall into the same trap.
Let he that thinks he stands take heed lest he falls.

You might wonder: well I am doing well by myself, but I tell you never leave the importance of the grace of God upon you or the direction of the Holy Spirit.
Many see people who fall into sin instead of interceding for them they turn it into the hot gossip.
Forgetting that except the Lord builds the house the builders labour in vain.
Except you allow God to direct you in life it is more likely and very easy to fall into the same mistake you condemn others of.
We live in the era where even believers are quick to judge, quick to throw the stone, quick to shoot the messenger, quick to make fun and jokes about others' mistake, forgetting that you need to take the plank of wood off your eyes before the speck of dust in the eyes of your neighbour.
No one is above mistake as they say.
But when you allow the Holy Spirit to live in you, you bring to life the word which says: In Him do I live, move and have my being.
Basically your steps will be ordered.
Your mindset is channeled and programmed by Him.
It is important we do not take little mistakes as minor mishap because they can easily become something that ruins destiny.

Lots of the Israelites left Egypt.
But not all of them got to Canaan land.
Why? Because failures of many of them were as a result of disobedience to God eternal.

You may wonder, but how do I live without failure?
By living according to His will.
By living a life that is directed by the Spirit of God.
By living according to His word.
By living according to His will.
Sometimes it may seem rather unbearable, it may look impossible.
It may seem too long.
Hmm, some journeys God allows it to be too long because He knows if we cut corners we will gravitate into the desires of the enemy.
Because people in your lineage fail at that junction doesn't mean you must fail.
Because your nation or youths in your nation fail to realise their potential doesn't mean you forfeit the gift in you.
Don't follow suit in the failure of others.
Learn from it, break the chain and don't be entrapped in the will of the enemy.

Let us pray.

Father thank you for your word this evening. Lord thank you for speaking to me specially. Lord forgive me in anyway I have allowed myself to follow in the direction that led to failure of others either in my lineage or generation.
Lord come into my life henceforth and lead me. Father I surrender all that constantly weighs me down from following the right path unto you, deliver me.
Lord do not let me die on the journey to my breakthrough in Jesus name.
Father never let me forfeit my purpose for short term gain through evil short cuts in Jesus name.
Abba keep me strong even in my journey on earth so I will get to where you want me to here on earth and also make heaven in Jesus name.
I decree every chain of failure passed down from generation to generation in my life is totally destroyed in Jesus name.
I decree henceforth I break free into the era of success as guarded by the Holy Spirit in Jesus name.

*Personal Prayer.*

Father break every chain of failure attached to my household, community, country of birth and where I reside in Jesus name.
Thank you Abba for answered prayers in Jesus name.
*Amen.*
