Ancient of days I honour your majesty and worship you for who you are

Lord thank you for this beautiful day and grace to be among the living

Lord thank you for the forgiveness of sin and your blood shed for my salvation 

Father thank you for reigning and ruling over the affairs of my life

Lord reign over this community and this nation, destroy the plans of the enemy over the nation

Lord have your way over all situations, terminate the agenda of the wicked

Abba remove every negative occurrence planned for the future of my family and I

Lord scatter all hidden agenda that the enemy wants to use to truncate purpose of creation in and around me

I decree my destiny and that of my family is hidden in the Lord nothing can truncate our destinies

Lessons from Psalms 83 to 84

Psalms 83

This Psalm, written by Asaph, contains 18 verses and is a prayer for God’s intervention. Asaph calls on the Lord not to remain silent because the enemies of God have risen against His people. They’ve gathered together, plotting against the children of God, even against those hidden away. It’s strange to think that anyone would consider themselves an enemy of God. After all, how can anyone truly be an enemy of the One who holds ultimate power over life and death, who could destroy the entire human race in an instant if He so desired? Yet, there are those who choose to make themselves God's enemies. I pray that they come to know God’s truth and be brought to light.

Asaph continues by describing the enemies’ plans to cut off God’s people and erase Israel from existence. They have a deliberate, crafty plan to wipe them out. But Asaph prays for God to fight for them, to confuse and trouble these enemies, to bring them to shame, and to cause them to perish, so that they will know that God alone is sovereign and His name, Jehovah, is the Most High over all the earth.

This Psalm shows us the power of calling on God to fight on our behalf. Just as Asaph didn’t try to fight the battle himself but asked God to take it on, we should learn to hand over our battles to God. It’s important to trust Him to fight for us rather than trying to handle everything on our own.

Psalms 84

This Psalm was written by the sons of Korah, and we can learn more about them from passages in 2 Chronicles 20:19, Numbers 16:25-26, and Exodus 6:24.

The Psalm begins with an exaltation of God Almighty, expressing a deep longing and thirst for His courts. The writer's heart cries out to the living God, reflecting on how blessed it is to dwell in the house of God and to continually praise Him. The Psalmist continues by saying how blessed is the person whose strength is in God, and how their journey is strengthened as they go from strength to strength. The Psalm includes a plea to God to hear our prayers, recognizing that God is our shield and protector. The writer concludes by saying that one day in God’s courts is far better than a thousand elsewhere, and that they would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house than dwell in the tents of the wicked. God is our sun and shield, giving us glory and withholding no good thing from those who walk uprightly. The Psalm ends with the affirmation that blessed is the one who trusts in God.

From this Psalm, I can gather that the sons of Korah had great faith in God. They knew how to approach Him—not just by presenting their needs but by exalting Him first, offering powerful praise, and then presenting their prayers. It’s a reminder for us to examine how we approach God. Do we only come to Him with requests, or do we first approach Him with praise and thanksgiving? Are we convinced that being in His presence is better than anything else we could experience? I pray that God will guide us to approach Him rightly, with hearts full of appreciation and trust in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lessons from Deuteronomy 4 to 5

Deuteronomy 4:1-24

This chapter begins with a strong reminder to the children of Israel to obey the statutes and judgments that God had given them. They were encouraged to hold fast to what the Lord had taught them through Moses, to possess the land He had promised, and to live there in obedience. They were instructed not to add to or subtract from God’s commandments, and were reminded that God had destroyed those who had disregarded His word. The message is clear: only those who hold fast to God’s word are alive and well. From this, I learned that total obedience is key when it comes to our relationship with God. There’s no room for partial obedience, and we must not compromise His word to fit the shifting trends of the world. To do so is dangerous for any true believer.

God continues by reminding Israel that no one and no nation is greater than Him. This truth is still as relevant today as it was then—just because God allows something to happen doesn’t mean that anyone or anything can overcome the Almighty. They were urged to keep their souls diligently, not forgetting the powerful works their eyes had witnessed, including God speaking from the fire. This resonates with us as individuals, as sometimes, our own difficult situations may feel like fire, but God uses those moments to capture our attention, just as He did with the Israelites. They were warned not to lose themselves in the process. Verses 19-20 specifically forbid the worship of stars, moons, or any heavenly bodies, reminding them that it was the Lord who brought them out of Egypt and gave them the land as an inheritance. Moses also spoke about the anger he displayed, which led to him being told by God that he would not enter the Promised Land but would die along the journey. He warned against creating idols to worship, for God is a jealous and consuming fire. Moses’ plea with God also serves as a reminder that emotions shouldn’t drive us to the point where we make irreversible mistakes or damage our relationship with God.

Deuteronomy 4:25-49

The instructions continue with further guidance on what the Israelites should and should not do, with an emphasis on passing these teachings down to future generations. God laid out clear conditions, with consequences for disobedience that would affect not only them but also their children and generations to come. However, if they seek God, they will find Him, and He will not forsake them. Moses reminded the people of the wonders God had shown them—how He spoke to them from heaven, and how they experienced unusual occurrences because of His love. God alone is the sovereign ruler of both heaven and earth. The Israelites were given laws regarding their possession of the land and their responsibilities there. From this, I learned the importance of humility before God, recognizing that even when we feel we are in the right, we should allow God to justify us, rather than running ahead of Him.

Deuteronomy 5

Moses gathered the Israelites again to remind them of God’s statutes, judgments, and the covenant made at Horeb. He reminded them how the covenant started with their ancestors, and how God spoke directly to them from the midst of fire on the mountain, declaring Himself to be the God who brought them out of Egypt and out of bondage. This is an essential reminder for all of us to never forget where God has brought us from. It's easy to become complacent once we experience God’s blessings, but we must never neglect Him. Many of us are living in the answers to our prayers, but some people, once they arrive at their desired place, become too comfortable and forget to honor God as they did before. I pray we never take God for granted.

Moses reiterated that God is a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations, but showing mercy and love to those who keep His commandments. He continued with instructions on honoring the Sabbath and treating others right. He reminded them of the Ten Commandments: honor your father and mother so your days may be long, do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, and do not covet someone else’s spouse or possessions. Moses delivered this message to ensure the people didn’t make mistakes that could derail their destiny. These instructions are still relevant today because God’s word is eternal and never outdated.

After delivering the message, God told Moses to send the people to their tents while He stayed behind to speak with Moses. God then gave Moses further promises and commandments. This moment reminds us that no matter what position God places us in, He is still the ultimate leader, and we must faithfully fulfill the calling He has placed on our lives. I pray that we will not fail God in Jesus' name. Amen.
