Lessons from Genesis 3:1-24
Genesis 3:1-24 AMPC
Learning:
This scripture depicts what transpired in the Garden of Eden why man fell into sin and what was the root cause. The scripture points out that the serpent(Satan) was crafty using divers skills to lure Eve and get information from her. Not only that the plan was to sow the seed of doubt, fear and uncertainty through lies.
Satan is the father of all lies, to achieve any of his goals he starts with a lie either packed as a 🎁 present or made pleasant as the truth whereas it's far from the truth.
As seen in the scriptures "And he [Satan] said to the woman, Can it really be that God has said, You shall not eat from every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat the fruit from the trees of the garden, Except the fruit from the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die. But the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die, For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity"
Satan started with a tricky questions to cause doubt in the mind of the woman, can it be really that God said you should not eat from every tree of the garden and the woman too answered that we may but not the tree in the middle of the garden.
Devil doesn't have the answers or the copyright to the information God has given to us His children until it's divulged to him through his tricky tactics. This again reminds us of what we confess and to whom we confess it to. When you read the verse properly you will see that his end goal was to steal, kill and destroy but he came first with lies and doubt to create some uncertainty and taste for what initially the woman wasn't craving for it.
Once he showed the seed , he moved on with deception, by telling the woman, God knows you will know the difference between good and bad that's why he said don't eat the fruit, so as human the curiosity got the best of the woman and she went ahead to eat the fruit.
"And when the woman saw that the tree was good (suitable, pleasant) for food and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she gave some also to her husband, and he ate. Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apronlike girdles. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden."
Once she tasted the fruit she introduced her husband to it and he ate as well. This is what I call sin or crime by association. The man did not question his wife because he trusted her as his help meet, instead of asking he just ate. Relating this with our daily lives, don't be too trusting, ask questions, they say knowledge is power, but it's useless if it's dormant. He knew his wife but didn't know the place she took the fruit from. He just ate. At times you see people say things like, my friends said I should follow her, my parents, my siblings or whoever said I should do this and I did it then when the outcomes is disaster they start nuturing what could have been avoided.
Once they ate the fruit they saw themselves differently, could it be that prior to eating the fruit they wore the glory of God as garment and once the line was crossed due to disobedience that was taken off their vision and they saw that they were naked.
Another thing you might wonder is, why didn't God stop it? We must know that God will never force anything on us, He is not like that, He gives us rooms to make choices, it's now up to us to choose wisely.
"But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me–she gave me [fruit] from the tree, and I ate. And the Lord God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled (cheated, outwitted, and deceived) me, and I ate. And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all [domestic] animals and above every [wild] living thing of the field; upon your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust [and what it contains] all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel. [Gal. 4:4.] To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and craving will be for your husband, and he will rule over you. And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return."
After disobeying God they started hiding away from Him, by the time God found out the blame game started, the one who was meant to lead the wife blamed the wife and the wife blamed the serpent. Eventually, the origin of cause of death in man was birthed at this point. Because God the put demarcation where they had freedom and said man and the serpent will not be friends and how man will labour to eat. Oh Adam why, oh Eve why! Disobedience to God doesn't bring a person to alignment of His will it takes the person far from His will and increases their journey of slowness in places they were meant to soar.
"The man called his wife's name Eve [life spring], because she was the mother of all the living. For Adam also and for his wife the Lord God made long coats (tunics) of skins and clothed them. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man has become like one of Us [the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit], to know [how to distinguish between] good and evil and blessing and calamity; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever– Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So [God] drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the Garden of Eden the cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep and guard the way to the tree of life."
One thing that stands out in this scripture is that when the serpent was done with the assignment, it was gone, when Adam and Eve were facing God based on their disobedience this crafty thing was no where to be found. If we relate this to our daily lives, those things that makes us go against God's will, will be no where when we face God. Those little sins will not be there to defend us when God questions us.
Disobedience creates a margin between the maker and the creations. Another part is the compassion of God, he made them long coats and clothed them. This shows to us that no matter how far gone we are in sin, disobedience, God is a compassionate God and he will have mercy on whom He will have mercy on.
God's mercy is not dictated by man's ability but by God supernatural capabilities. We are never far gone from God's redemption even in the face of our disobedience He still loves us.
A significant aspect to note is, they were banished from the garden of Eden, because as recorded in the scripture, if man was to eat again the fruit, he will live forever. The only one who can make one live forever is Jesus Christ.
